ComparePenny Cherry is an excellent quality dessert cherry that is heavy cropping with large dark red fruits that become black. Sweet with juicy flesh. It is a late ripening variety which commercially has benefits.
Developed at East Malling Research, Kent and released in 2001. It was bred from a cross made between Cherries Colney & Inge in 1987. So a breeding and trialling programme of over 10 years! Though grown with commercial growers in mind we can all benefit from its introduction.
It is not self fertile but can be pollinated by other self fertile cherries such as Sunburst & Stella
