Penny Cherry is an excellent quality dessert cherry that is heavy cropping with large dark red fruits that become black. Sweet with juicy flesh. It is a late ripening variety which commercially has benefits.
Developed at East Malling Research, Kent and released in 2001. It was bred from a cross made between Cherries Colney & Inge in 1987. So a breeding and trialling programme of over 10 years! Though grown with commercial growers in mind we can all benefit from its introduction.
