Blackcurrant
We offer blackcurrant bushes that have a spread of fruiting from late June through July. Easy to grow, heavy cropping they will provide lots of nutritious summer fruits for many years if maintained well. We do not grow bushes ourselves. Varieties are available as non organic plants.
Plant about 1.5 (5') apart. Grow as stoolbed bushes where the branching arises from soil level. Plant a little deeper than on the nursery to encourage branching from below soil level. After planting reduce branching to a couple of buds above soil level. Mark the plants well because little will be visible initially.
However Blackcurrant bushes will quickly. Grow in a sheltered, fertile site with plenty of sunlight. Some shade can be tolerated.

Blackcurrant bushes are dispatched between late November and late March when dormant.
You are welcome to order now. We will acknowledge your order and email you an Order Confirmation when we take payment in October or November, before being in contact to arrange delivery or collection through the dormant season. Orders placed well in advance will generally be supplied late November or December.

In stock £9.00Ben Connan is an early season fruiting Blackcurrant that is high yielding with large berries. Good for organic growing with mildew and leaf midge resistance. Cropping is from late June through most of July. Non organic plants.

In stock £9.00Ben Sarek is an excellent early variety with compact growth habit making it very sutable for growing in smaller gardens. Crops heavily with large black berries around mid July. Available as non organic plants.
