Gages

A selection of Gage trees are offered for sale. Though they are the sweetest of the plums they are a distinct group.  Most Gages ripen during August. When ripe they are often green, hence the name Greengage, but can be different colours. The different Gage trees for sale are detailed below.

All Gages are available bare-rooted as ‘maidens’ on moderate vigour St Julien A.

Gage trees are dispatched between early December and late March when dormant.

We are busy growing a fresh batch of trees for supply winter 2026-27. We will make them available to advance order from early August well ahead of availability from early December when dormant.

  • Cambridge Gage

    Produces the classic Greengage fruit. An excellent rich flavoured gage. Medium sized round fruits with yellow green skin and yellow flesh. Sweet and juicy.

  • Coe’s Golden Drop

    An excellent late Gage Large in size, with golden yellow skin and red spots and lines. The golden yellow flesh is juicy sweet and of rich flavour.

  • Gages ripening on tree

    Early Transparent Gage

    Early Transparent is a high quality that ripens in the middle of the plum season. The round fruits have golden yellow skin and flesh.

  • Gage fruit ripening on tree

    Golden Transparent

    A late ripening gage the becomes golden yellow with golden transparent flesh that is juicy and at its best of excellent flavour.

  • Jefferson’s Gage

    Gages are yellow green skinned with red russet dots with a long faint suture from top to bottom. The flesh is golden yellow, sweet and of good flavour.

  • Oullin’s Gage

    Large round oval dual purpose gage plum. Greenish yellow skin with similar coloured flesh. Juicy and sweet with a pleasant flavour.
