Mirabelles
(24/01/2025) WE HAVE REMOVED ALL PLUMS AND RELATED TREES (DAMSONS, GAGES, MIRABELLES ETC) FROM AVAILABILITY, AS THE REMAINING TREES IN THE FIELD ARE MARGINAL. ONCE WE HAVE SUPPLIED OUR EXISTING ORDERS, WE WILL REVIEW IN MARCH AND IF THERE ARE STILL GOOD TREES REMAINING WE WILL RETURN SOME TO AVAILABILITY HERE.
Mirabelles are a sub category of plums producing round fruits of about 25mm diameter. They are a speciality in the Lorraine region of north east France where the climate and soils seem ideal for its cultivation. They grow happily in other areas in Europe where the climate an soil are suitable including in southern UK. Sweet fruits are usually made into preserve, pies, wine or even brandy.
We are offering three different Mirabelle varieties. Long established ‘De Nancy’ that has been at the heart of the production in north east France and two more recent introductions from Ukraine
In the UK what appears to be Mirabelles can sometimes be seen fruiting alongside roads and tracks in areas that have and still grow fruit. They are likely to be Cherry plums. Though their red or yellow fruits look similar in July and into August they are distinctly different to Mirabelles.

Mirabelle trees are dispatched between late November and late March when dormant.
You are welcome to order now. We will acknowledge your order and email you an Order Confirmation when we take payment in October or November, before being in contact to arrange delivery or collection through the dormant season. Orders placed well in advance will generally be supplied late November or December.

Mirabelle de Nancy
St Julien A maiden (moderate): Out of stock £24.50Related to the Damson, arising in the middle east arriving in France in the middle ages. Small round yellow fruits up to 3cm diameter ripen early August. Its yellow flesh is sweet and richly flavoured. Partially self fertile. Not often cultivated in the UK, flowering early it benefits from shelter and a warm spring.

Mirabelle Golden Sphere
St Julien A maiden (moderate): Out of stock £24.50A relatively new variety bred producing good sized yellow spherical fruits with golden flesh that is sweet with a plum like flavour. Good as a dessert fruit it can also be cooked. Though hardy like other Mirabelles it flowers early so benefits from a sheltered situation.

Mirabelle Gypsy
St Julien A maiden (moderate): Out of stock £24.50Gypsy is a result of a breeding programme in Ukraine to create improved varieties from naturalized Cherry Plum with its small fruits. Introduced in 1995 it produces larger round bright red fruits with sweet orange flesh. Ripens late August and considered partially self fertile.
