A relatively new variety Mirabelle, Golden Sphere produces good sized yellow spherical fruits. with golden flesh that is sweet with a plum like flavour. Good as a dessert fruit it can also be cooked. Being bred in the Ukraine and presumably being grown in eastern Europe it is hardy.
Like other Mirabelles it flowers early so can be more susceptible to spring frosts so for regular fruiting plant in a sheltered position. If in a more exposed position expect variable pollination & to be affected more by spring frosts over the years.
Golden Sphere is partially self fertile so can be grown on its own with some success. For even better success have another Mirabelle in the vicinity or other early flowering plums such as Warwickshire Drooper, another yellow fruiting tree.
