Early Transparent Gage is one of several gages raised from Transparent Gage. It fruits in mid August with green yellow round plums that a somewhat flattened at either end. The suture (groove or line that runs down the fruit from the stalk)is very shallow. When ripe in August the flesh is golden yellow, juicy sweet and transparent. The flattish stone becomes quite free with ripening. Self fertile.
Raised from Transparent by Thomas Rivers of Rivers Nursery, Hertfordshire and introduced in 1873. We are growing another Transparent Gage, Golden Transparent, raised by the same nursery some years later. The photo is of a Gage, but not Early Transparent. We will endeavour to obtain photos.
