Jostaberry is a thornless hybrid cross of a blackcurrant and gooseberry that combines the fruit of a gooseberry with the taste and vitamin content of a blackcurrant. Not sure how to categorize this hybrid fruit bush so have placed in Gooseberries & Blackcurrants!
It is a vigorous upright growing bush that will grow to 1.5m (5′) height & spread. Plant about 1.5m (5′) apart. Self fertile, the fruit ripen in July. Shiny black berries that are twice the size of most Blackcurrants and have a good flavour being high in vitamin C. Jostaberry can be consumed straight from the bush or used in desserts and preserves. Resistant to mildew but may require protection against frost. Resistant to big bud and foliar diseases
Jostaberries can be grown in most soils ideally moist and free draining. They enjoy full sun or partial shade. Soil Association certified organic plants.
