Arose when different coloured fruit was found on a Yellow Egg tree in the Vale of Evesham. This ‘Sport’ was propagated and introduced as a new variety – Evesham Wonder, in 1913. The medium sized oval fruits are bright glossy red. A culinary plum best grown for cooking & jamming.
There is little information on this variety or ‘sport’. We have not come across it in the Vale of Evesham in the years we have been growing. We obtained some grafting material from the National Fruit Collection, Brogdale and have just a few trees available this winter, about 10, but more should be available winter 2022-23.
We will not have a photograph of Evesham Wonder fruit until one of the trees we have grown fruits, but just maybe there is someone out there with a fruiting tree already. If so please get in touch!
