Reeves is a dual purpose plum of good quality. The large round plums can be 5cm tall & 5cm wide and ripen by mid August. The red skin have some light blue bloom and reveal yellow flesh below that is of good flavour though not especially sweet. when ripe the stone is almost free, round oval & plump. It’s stalk is short and stout barely protruding from a deep and narrow cavity. This along with its size and shape is a good distinguishing feature of Reeves
Also know as Reeves Seedling it was found and named after A. Reeves in British Columbia. It was introduced into the UK around 1940. It is not self fertile but flowers in the middle of the plum flowering season so if there are other plums or gages in the vicinity pollination will not be a problem.
Picking time: mid August
