CompareA very enjoyable late dessert plum that ripens in the first half of September. Medium sized plums dark purple when ripe with a thick blue bloom that is quite persistant if wiped. The greenish yellow flesh is juicy which comes freely apart from its stone and is of excellent flavour. There is shallow suture that runs from top to bottom of the fruit.
First propagated by London nurseryman Joseph Kirke around 1830 who raised it using it’s present name. How he came about the previously unnamed tree has a couple of different accounts. Has a spreading habit but is not a vigorous variety. Requires pollination.
