A mid season bittersweet variety becoming ready late Oct / early Nov. Makes a high quality cider. Medium sized conical apples greatly flushed dark red. Apples on young trees can be somewhat larger. Flesh sweet & astringent. Like other ‘Jersey’ varieties arose in Somerset not Jersey and sometimes known as ‘Port Wine’.
Said to be named after the Nurseryman who raised it. Has been regularly planted because of its good quality cider and reliable cropping. Flowers late mid season and is a good pollinator of the later flowering Chisel Jersey.
