An early dessert pear that seems to perform well in the UK. Beurre Precose Morettini is the earliest ripening pear that we grow at present. It develops large pears that are pyriform in shape and ripen to have a rose pink flush over a yellow base colour in August. Smooth skinned with little sign of any russet. The white flesh when ripe is juicy, sweet but with a lemony tang.
First raised in the 1930s by Alessandro Morettini at the Agricultural Faculty, Florence University, Italy. Introduced in 1956 to be grown commercially.
