Many Pear varieties raised in France and Belgium are prefixed Beurre (meaning butter). Not all grow well in the UK but Beurre Hardy does. Medium to large light green pears covered with large areas of warm brown russet. White, salmon tinged flesh very juicy with a good flavour.
The generally large pears are often quite ’round conical’ in shape rather than the usual pyriform pear shape. Leave on the tree as long as possible to gain as much flavour as possible without leaving to become soft anywhere before picking.
