- ApplesWe have a wide selection of apple trees for sale. Select and buy dessert, culinary and cider apple tree varieties. All apples are grown on our fruit tree nursery. As fruit tree growers we offer for sale apple trees on different rootstocks from dwarf to vigorous to suit all situations. The apple trees are available to buy as one year ‘maidens’ & some as a little taller two year trees ideal for training into different forms – bush trees, espaliers, cordons, etc. They are available barerooted being lifted and dispatched when dormant from late November through to March. They vary in size according to the variety. For example D’Arcy Spice is always the smallest variety at around 90cm / 3′ tall whereas Katy & Ribston Pippin are often around 1.8m / 6′ tall. The average height would be 1.2- 1.5m (4-5′ tall). Ideal for training into bush trees, cordons, espaliers, etc. Some varieties are a single stem whereas others are branched (feathered). - Cider ApplesAn expanding selection of cider apple trees are offered for sale on that will produce high quality Cider. Cider apples are divided into Bittersweets, Bittersharps, Sweets & Sharps. We offer mostly Bittersweets with a few from the other categories. Some varieties are also dual purpose including ‘Ten Commandments‘ & ‘Tom Putt‘. We offer cider apple trees on two rootstocks: MM106 – moderate vigour & M25 – vigorous. Trees are available as bare-rooted one year ‘maiden’ trees. Cider apples require a pollination partner. Each variety has a flowering period through May. A variety can be pollinated by another of the same flowering period or one to either side. - Culinary ApplesA wide selection of culinary apple trees are offered for sale on a variety of rootstocks to suit all situations and tastes. The most famous variety in the UK, Bramley, originated 200 years ago, however there are many more desirable culinary apple trees to buy. Cooking apples are often green such as Grenadier and Lord Derby, but others redden up such as Howgate Wonder. They are generally divided into two categories acid and sub acid. Acid culinary apple trees tend to be sharp when cooked and require sweetening. Sub acid apple varieties are less sharp, so requiring little or no sugar and can be acceptable eaten raw. Trees are available as bare-rooted one year ‘maiden’ trees and some as little taller two year trees. As a rule culinary apples are large – plenty of flesh after peeling and coring! They tend to be less fickle than dessert apples – most of the trees will grow well in most parts of the UK. Culinary apples ripen through the autumn. - Worcestershire ApplesThe south west midlands has a rich heritage as a fruit growing area and as a result many Worcestershire apple varieties as well as plums and pears have arisen. Some have become widely well known i.e. Worcester Pearmain, William Crump. Others are less well known, but still of good quality. Below are offered a range of apple trees originating in Worcestershire along with a few from neighbouring counties of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. Some of these varieties have been supersceded by more well known varieties but some have never become noted despite being worthy of growing. - Plums, Gages & DamsonsOur selection of Plum, Gage and Damson trees – dessert, dual purpose and culinary is always widening. Gages are a distinct group of plums being the sweetest. We also have a number of damson tree varieties available. All ripen from late July into September. All grown on our fruit tree nursery. The Plum season lasts from late July until September with most varieties ripening during August. There are Plum trees to buy to suit everyone. Choose from well known varieties such as Victoria to the less well known but just as desirable varieties. Plums can be divided into three categories: Dessert – are best eaten fresh. Gages are the sweetest. Dual purpose – can be cooked or eaten as a dessert plum. There is a wide selection of dual purpose varieties including Czar, Victoria, Marjorie’s Seedling, Heron, etc. Culinary – best cooked or made into jams. Some are acceptable as a dessert such as Pershore Purple. Usually their fruit are large, so less stones in your desserts! Damsons ripen mostly into September. - DamsonsDamson trees have been around in the UK for centuries and can be regarded as native in many parts. - GagesA selection of Gage trees are offered for sale. Though they are the sweetest of the plums they are a distinct group. Most Gages ripen during August. - Gloucestershire PlumsThe county of Gloucestershire is well known for its plums. Grown particularly along the lower reaches of the River Severn south of Gloucester and into the Forest of Dean. Some Gloucestershire plums are very local to certain parts of the county and as a result are dwindling in number. At the request of Gloucestershire Orchard Trust (GOT) we are growing a good selection of these Gloucestershire plums & damson trees. All available as bare-root ‘maidens’ on vigorous Brompton rootstocks & some on moderate vigour St Julien A. We are growing a couple of other Goucestershire plums – Blaisdon Red & Grove’s Late Victoria. These are more widely known and are also on the Plums page. - Pears & Perry PearsWe offer a widening selection of Pear trees for sale suited to the British climate and now Perry Pears. All pear trees are grown on our fruit tree nursery. The Pear trees to buy are all dessert varieties apart from two, and most of them have been bred in the UK. Pears trees will grow well in a well drained but moisture retentive soil and will start to fruit early after planting. The pear trees for sale are available as barerooted one year ‘maiden’ trees and some as little taller two year trees being lifted and dispatched when dormant from November onwards. They vary in size according to the variety. For example Concorde is usually 90 – 120cm / 3-4′ tall whereas Beurre Hardy is often around 1.8m / 6′ tall. Perry Pears are traditionally grown in the three counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire & Herefordshire they make large long lived trees and the fruit is used to make Perry, the pear equivalent of cider. - Quinces & MedlarWe have a range of Quinces & Medlar trees for sale and grown on our fruit tree nursery. Worth a place in any garden or orchard Quince trees have attractive large white flushed pink flowers in the spring and their fruit ripens by late October. All are grown on moderate vigour Quince A rootstock. The quince trees for sale are available as barerooted one year ‘maiden’ trees being lifted and dispatched when dormant from late November onwards. - CherriesCherries – we grow a range of cherry trees to buy suited to growing in the British climate and grown on our fruit tree nursery. All are dessert cherries ripening from late June until early August from dark red to black. Where possible, plant in a sheltered sunny situation into a fertile soil. Cherries flower quite early so for protection and good pollination a sheltered open situation suit them best. Cherry trees like a deep, fertile and well-drained soil that is ideally slightly acidic. When pruning cherry trees prune recently planted at the end of the winter shortly before they become active. Established trees summer prune soon after picking late July / early August to reduce3 the risk of bacterial canker & silverleaf. We offer them on two rootstocks which determines the ultimate size of the trees: Colt – a semi-vigorous variety. Grows to roughly 4m tall, and produces large crops of cherries. Compatible with all sweet and flowering varieties. Prunus avium ‘F.12.1’ – A full vigorous rootstock, grows to over 5m tall and is hardier than the others. A word of warning! - Crab ApplesOften grown as ornamental trees, crab apple trees produce masses of attractive fruits. Crab apples are ideal for the garden situation where they can be a feature on their own or alongside other fruiting trees. Apart from being very good pollinators of all apples the fruits can be used to make crab apple jelly. The appealing Crab apple trees we have for sale are grown in our nursery on a moderate vigour rootstock. Crab apple and are available barerooted as one year ‘maiden’ trees. - Blackberry & Hybrid BerriesWe all know the Blackberry (or Bramble) growing wild in the UK in hedgrerows and uncultivated places that produce small fruits. From these wild relatives have come cultivated varieties with larger fruits and some that are thornless. Hybrid berries – the Tayberry & Loganberry – are a result of crossing various Rubus species including the Raspberry, Blackberry & Dewberry and are grown in a similar way to Blackberries. A new addition is a distinct loganberry variety ‘Worcester Early Thornless’ available in small quantities with proceeds donated to a local homeless shelter. We are offering some of these plants that are an excellent addition to any fruit garden. We do not grow Black & Hybrid berries ourselves but offer non organic plants. - GooseberryNot usually seen in the shops the best way to the Gooseberry is to grow your own. Versatile plants they can be grown as bushes, as a half standard or as cordons. Happy in most fertile well drained soils even tolerating partial shade. Best if planted in a sheltered position. We do not grow Gooseberries ourselves, but are offering non organic bushes. We are offering three varieties – two dessert and one culinary. The dessert varieties can be cooked aswell. Plant 1.5-1.8m (5-6′) apart and grow on a leg. Plant closer is space is limited and trim. - RaspberriesThough we only have a small selection of Raspberry varieties available they cover a long fruiting period. From Glen Ample that is picked from late June to autumn fruiting raspberries which can be picked through until the first frosts. Plant raspberries 45cm (18″) apart in a clean sunny sheltered site ideally with the row running north to south. Summer fruiting canes fruit on last years growth so these canes will need the support of posts and wires. Autumn fruiting raspberries fruit on the current seasons growth which is cut down after fruiting and do not necessarily need support. Supplied in bundles of 5. The first two varieties are autumn fruiting, the last three summer fruiting. Not grown by ourselves but from a very reliable nursery they are non organic canes. - RedcurrantThe Redcurrant is usually grown as a bush but can also be grown taller as a cordon or fan trained against a fence or wall. Grow on a short leg, planting at the same height as they were on the nursery about 1.5m (5′) apart. Grow Redcurrant in a sunny position in a fertile, well drained soil. Tolerant of partial shade, but fruits will ripen a little later and may not be as flavoursome as bushes growing in full sun. We do not grow Redcurrants ourselves, but are offering non organic bushes. - WhitecurrantThe Whitecurrant is a mutant or sport of the Redcurrant so grow and treat the same. Usually grown as bushes they can also be grown taller as cordons or fan trained against a fence or wall. Grow Whitecurrants on a sort leg, planting at the same height as they were on the nursery about 1.5m (5′) apart. Grow in a sunny position in a fertile, well drained soil. Tolerant of partial shade, but fruits will ripen a little later and may not be as flavoursome as bushes growing in full sun. We do not grow Whitecurrants ourselves but offer non organic plants. - SundriesA selection of items for sale to aid fruit tree establishment. We advise stake and tying trees at planting for two or three years to aid establishment. We do not deliver stakes but they should be available locally from a Garden Centre or DIY shed. Look for short stakes 1.2-1.5m (4-5′) tall to support the roots as they establish. We stock such stakes at the Nursery for those who collect – £2.40 for 1.2m & £3.00 for 1.5m stakes
- RootstocksWe are able to offer apple, pear and plum rootstocks for February & March grafting, or for planting out before grafting at a later stage. Sold individually, some of the apple rootstocks will have been grown on the nursery and will be harvested in January. Others will be bought in, some of it organic. For grafting the stems will be in the region of 8-11mm collar diameter. Once we have harvested and received the rootstocks we will supply them February to late March for delivery or collection. **WE ARE NOW WELL UNDERWAY DELIVERING ORDERED ROOTSTOCKS. WE ARE WORKING THROUGH ORDERS PLACED FROM LATER NOVEMBER ONWARDS. IF YOU HAVE NOT HEARD FROM US WE WILL BE IN CONTACT AS SOON AS WE CAN ** Having ordered you will receive an automated acknowledgement. We will then send you an ‘Order Confirmation’ in January when we take payment before being in contact to arrange delivery or collection February onwards. With rootstocks being smaller we will deliver most orders for £15.00. For very small orders, up to 10 rootstocks, we will try to fit in a postal tube and send through the Post Office for £12. - Pre-trained Espaliers (Collection only)We will have a selection of pre-trained containerised espalier fruit trees grown in 12 litre pots. As they are grown in containers, we can supply them from August onwards. Espaliers are a tree form good for training against walls or fences. They have a single vertical stem with branches coming out in horizontal tiers. This takes up a lot less space than a round bush tree. There is a small range of apple and pear varieties, available as single tier trees with the first tier established at 12-18” above the compost level. THEY ARE FOR COLLECTION ONLY. THEY ARE TOO BULKY TO BE DELIVERED WITH CANES PROTRUDING. They will fit comfortably in a hatchback vehicle. The trees are grown for the summer in peat free compost with added loam to provide enough nutition through the growing season.
