CompareLord Hindlip is a handsome late medium / large conical apple of excellent taste. Of a distinct shape with the apple tapering sharply to a narrow apex. Skin brownish orange with patches of bright red. Usually has quite distinct ribbing with one larger rib than others making the apple sometimes appear lop sided.
Arose in the 1890s being named after a landowner not far from us just north of Worcester. However it was exhibited to the RHS by Mr Watkins of Pomona Farm, Hereford in 1896 so we are not sure of the reason for the name and the link to Hindlip Hall. Nevertheless it is a distinct, quality dessert apple that will keep well into the New year in suitable conditions.
