Glou Morceau arose in Belguim around 1759 and has spread throughout the world including the southern hemisphere being valued for its quality and long ripening period into the following year.

A dessert pear that arose in Belguim around 1759 but grown in the UK particularly in Victorian times. Its name means ‘delicious morsel’. Glou Morceau has spread throughout the world including the southern hemisphere being valued for its quality and long ripening period into the following year. Much grown commercially in the past but replaced by other varieties now. However it is a very good garden pear that requires a sheltered situation particularly if grown away from southern England.
Pears are pyriform in shape, the green skin colours to golden when ripe. Its flesh becomes buttery, melting sweet yet with some sharpness.
