The same as Cox but benefits from being self fertile, though will crop even better if there are other apple varieties in the vicinity. Can crop better than its parent, Cox’s Orange Pippin, when pollination conditions are less favourable. (Bristol, 1975)

Bred from Cox crossed with earlier ripening Duchess of Oldenburg. The result is an excellent Cox like apple with an excellent rich honeyed flavour. Flesh crisp, juicy & tinged yellow. Attractive medium sized apples with yellow skin flushed red. A very good early season variety.
Consistently high yielding. Very good for organic growing. One of five recommended apples to come from a recently completed five year organic trial. Also known as Red Alkmene / Red Windsor being a redder sport of Alkmene / Early Windsor.
Bred in Germany in 1930s, Alkmene / Early Windsor was only introduced into the UK in 1972 with Cevaal following shortly after. Rootstock: MM106, M26, M9

Pitmaston Pineapple
£16.50Availability: In stockOut of stock
A quite different and distinctive apple. Small golden yellow apples, oblong conical in shape covered with a fine russet. Sweet yet sharp. Honeyed flavour and nicely scented, but any pineapple flavour is difficult to distinguish. A neglected variety because of the apples small size, but this is a feature in itself. A variety well worth growing. A fruiting tree in the autumn is an impressive sight with the golden apples contrasting with the yet to fall leaves. Now sold out on M26 & MM106
