Skye is an autumn fruiting variety that has outstanding qualities. A vigorous variety that produces long straight canes, that produce glossy red, large, sweet fruit berries. A new variety recently released by the James Hutton Institute in Scotland with an appropriate name for a variety that will produce well in northern UK.
If left to overwinter, the canes of Skye will provide a good crop of raspberries in early summer on the same canes. Self fertile and fruits from August to October. Plant 45cm apart into a well drained soil that has not been planted with Rubus spp. previously.
The usual autumn raspberry is Autumn Bliss but this will be a good alternative especially for northern UK. The photo is of an autumn fruiting raspberry not necessarily Skye. We will apply a photo when we can.
For autumn fruiting raspberries a supporting framework of post & wire does not necessarily have to be erected. The annual growth can be self supporting on reasonably sheltered sites. If a tidier appearance wished for introduce post and wire support because it they grow well canes will tend to topple over somewhat under the weight of the fruit and height of canes especially if the site catches any wind.
Supplied in bundles of 5 canes. Non-organic plants.
