An early season variety producing very large round conical apples Reverend W. Wilks develops a pale green yellow skin with some pinky red flush making it a quite distinct apple. Good disease resistance and suitable for growing throughout the UK. Apples are sub acid cooking to a pale yellow froth and requiring little or no sugar. Though its season is late August to early September pick earlier for a sharper apple.
Cropping can be heavy bringing down branches. To avoid this thin after the ‘June drop’ to lighten the load and achieve a more evenly graded crop of large apples. Though offered on just moderate vigour MM106 rootstock it is not a strong grower and makes a smallish tree.
