Haughty’s Red is a good looking medium sized mid season dessert apple. Its yellow skin is much flushed red with crimson striping and some russeting. Apples have distinct ribbing around the body of the fruit and at the eye end. The flesh is soft with some coarseness and with a sweet flavour.
The apple first came to wider attention in 1946 when it was sent to the National Fruit Collection. It arose in the Teme valley around Kyre with its origin on land owned by the Haughty family.
