Fils Jeune
Fils Jeune is a French dessert apple that has been introduced to Pershore because of a town twinning exchange where fruit trees of each area were exchanged. Though on the small side the apples are crunchy & sweet and keep well.

We have grown a few of Fils Jeune because of the connection with Pershore, the town local to Walcot Organic Nursery. It comes from a twin town, Plouay in Brittany, France. The residents of Plouay received a Pershore Purple Plum grown by us so Pershore received a Fils Jeune, which means young son, in return. The variety must be well known in the area – more information on this is required! A tree was planted in St Andrew’s Gardens just off Pershore’s High Street and the material for these trees came from this tree.
Fils Jeune produces small, yellow-green flattish round dessert apples that sometimes have a slight reddish flush. Sweet and crunchy when picked in October Fils Jeune will keep well into the New Year. The apples have slight, rounded ribbing and a smooth skin with obvious lenticels over the green background. It has quite a long stalk that arises in a cavity of moderate depth.
Placed in the Worcestershire apples category because it may not be of interest beyond Pershore but who knows!
