We are pleased to be growing this long established pear. Emile D’Heyst is apparently one of the most reliable pears in the UK, cropping in most years and performing well into northern England and Scotland.
Beneath the light green skin, which turns more yellowish green, the slightly yellowish flesh is sweet, quite juicy and of very pleasant flavour. Somewhat oval in shape one side of the pears is larger than the other.
Arose in Malines, Belguim, first fruited in 1847 and named after Emile d’Heyst – not sure who she was!
