The most well known pear. Reliable and heavy cropping. Medium sized pears with pale yellow flesh, melting, juicy, sweet and of good flavour. Normal pear shape – Pyriform, but can often be long and narrow with a bulbous base, known as callabasse.
Originated in the UK and first exhibited at the National Pear Conference in 1885, hence its name. Since then it has become the most widely grown commercial pear in the UK & much grown on the continent.

Beurre Precoce Morettini
An early dessert pear that seems to perform well in the UK. Quite large pears are pyriform in shape and ripen to have a rose pink flush over a yellow base colour in August. Smooth skinned with little sign of any russet. The white flesh when ripe is juicy, sweet but with a lemony tang.

A fine pear of excellent flavour – the flesh at best is juicy, sweet & melting. Medium to large fruits nearly as wide as tall. Yellow, some with a pink flush.

Emile D’Heyst
One of the most reliable pears in the UK, cropping in most years and performing well into northern England and Scotland. Beneath the light green skin, which turns more yellowish green, the slightly yellowish flesh is sweet, quite juicy and of very pleasant flavour. Arose in Belguim, first fruited in 1847.
