Butterball is an appropriate name for this crab apple which we have recently started to grow. The warm butter yellow round apples gain a nice orange flush in the autumn. The abundance of fruit bring the outward spreading branches down to give the tree a weeping appearance. The large flowers are shell pink in bud but open to be pure white. The apples remain on the tree well into the autumn. Easily picked they make a nice amber coloured jelly. Bred in the US and introduced in 1961.
