Presumed to have arisen in Blakeney, Glos but subsequently planted widely in the three counties. Became well known in mid 1800s when much planting took place. Some of the mature trees seen in the regions landscape today would no doubt be Blakeney Red.
Like many Perry varieties known to a lesser extent by several names including ‘Circus pear’, ‘Painted pear’, ‘Painted Lady’ & just ‘Blakeney’.
