A new late ripening peach from Kent. Gorgeous produces peaches with purple-red striped skin and yellow flesh that ripen early September.
Peaches originate from China, not Persia, and were introduced into Europe after centuries of cultivation in Asia. The UK, even the south east, is at the margin of its successful cultivation and is best not grown in the open but against a south facing wall as a fan where it can enjoy the warmth of its situation or even under glass.
The main disease associated with Peaches in our damper enviroment is Peach leaf curl. The fungus enters through leaf scars and can be devastating. Spray over the winter at intervals with a copper spray. Keeping the tree covered with a plastic sheet is another option keeping the branches & buds dry is another option. The sheeting will give frost protection aswell over the winter until the risk of frosts has gone.
