A mid season bittersweet variety becoming ready late Oct / early Nov. Makes a high quality cider. Medium sized conical apples greatly flushed dark red. Apples on young trees can be somewhat larger. Flesh sweet & astringent. Like other 'Jersey' varieties arose in Somerset not Jersey and sometimes known as 'Port Wine'. Rootstock: MM106, M25
Said to be named after the Nurseryman who raised it. Has been regularly planted because of its good quality cider and reliable cropping. Flowers late mid season and is a good pollinator of the later flowering Chisel Jersey.
