A relatively new dessert plum raised at Long Aston Research Station, Bristol in 1970 before being introduced in 1989. Count Althn's Gage is one of the parents. Produces large roundish plums that are a little longer than wide. Skin colour becomes red orange when ripe with a light pale blue bloom. The pale yellow flesh is sweet & juicy of good flavour.

Plums have a distinct suture - a line or depression running the length of the plum. Excalibur has quite a deep suture which often becomes deeper near the stalk and can be larger on one side of the frruit than the other. When ripe the plum stone is 'free'. Excalibur require s a pollination partner not being self fertile.
