Doyenne d'Ete

  • Price: £17.00

With many pears ripening in September & October this variety is useful as a very early ripening pear. It is not a strong grower, so a good way of growing it is as a cordon. Small, bulbous or more technically correct bergamotte shaped pears. When ripe the pears smooth skin is pale yellow up to half flushed brownish red. The white melting flesh is sweet and of nice flavour, but being such an early ripening pear it only has a brief season when at its best.

A very old pear raised by the Monks at Mons, Belguim around 1700. Also known as Doyenne de Juillet - Juillet meaning July
